Staff Report: Abdul Baten of Nalkura Union of Jhenaigati upazila has benefited greatly from cultivating citrus (lemon) fruits due to the soil dopo-ash of Garo Hills and the climate is dry and warm in the Jhenaigati upazila of the district. Last three years ago, Abdul Baten has been successful in cultivating lemons and Malta under the Citrus Development Project of the Upazila Agricultural Extension Department. Abdul Baten is the son of late Mofiz Uddin of Haldia village. He is a government driver in the profession. Entrepreneur Abdul Baten said that due to elephant irritation in the border, his 7 acre land had fallen. About four years ago, people of Agriculture Department started cultivating citrus fruit in two acres of land under the Citrus Development Project and by planting Lemon fruit in two and a half acres of land. At present, his garden has 1300 seedles and 500 palm lemons, 160 maltas and 20 orangles. There are 1 workers in the year contract to observe the garden. Besides, three workers work on daily wage basis. So far its cost is about 8 lakh taka. 

Only Lime has sold 20 lakhs Earlier this year, he expressed the hope of selling Malta at around Tk 80,000. It is found that about 30 to 40 malta on each tree. Lemon is found in sufficient quantity of lemon. In the garden, four workers are serving water, including water. There is no disease. According to the data provided by Upazila Agriculture Extension Directorate, under the Citrus Development Project in the upazila, lemon fruit has been cultivated in 18 hectares of land through 60 blocks. Jinnagati Agriculture Extension Directorate said that such fruits, especially Lemon and Malta, can be used to create huge amount of money and also create jobs as well as the balance of the environment. Regarding this, Abdul Baten said, I have been financially successful by cultivating lemon. I hope that many poor farmers can be self-sufficient by cultivating this kind of farming. So I think that there is a small land of peasantry that cultivates lemons on the land must be self-sufficient economically. The country will also improve.
